âHe is persistent, isnât he?â
Charlotte inclined her head towards her phone. âIf he has realized I am missing, he will not stop in his attempt to contact me.â
The woman called Truth held Charlotteâs phone in her hand. She slid her dark-toned fingers over its surface, turning it this way and that between her palms.
âHe is a fascinating creature,â she said as the phone rang again. Seanâs number appeared on the caller ID. âHis determination is admirable.â
âI would have to agree with that statement,â Charlotte answered.
âOf course you would. Thatâs why you have been chosen to replace me.â
Charlotte had been captive for less than an hour and, if she had to be perfectly honest, it had been one of the best hours of her life. Of course, this excluded the fact someone drugged her and she wasnât allowed to leave, but otherwise she found herself in complete contentment.
She currently sat in the plushest, softest, most comfortable chair sheâd ever sat in in her life. She didnât know the fabric, only that it felt amazingly soft against her bare skin. Because, in point of fact, she was naked.
Granted, a blanket covered her, made of the same material as the chair, which felt like a cross between satin and mink, if that combination were possible, but otherwise, she was completely void of clothing.
When sheâd woken, she found herself lying in a bed about the size of her entire apartment bedroom. Layer after layer, fold after fold of the slinkiest, softest, smoothest fabric sheâd ever touched enveloped her. Even though she felt frightened by her surroundings, somehow a sense of safety swathed her as well under the multitude of blankets. She had been neither hot nor coldâperfectly at ease on a mattress which held her like a dense cloud.
Minutes after she woke, Truth entered the room and asked Charlotte to follow her. At that moment she realized two things simultaneously. The first, Truth was naked. The second, so was she. But since her captor didnât seem to have a problem with it, Charlotte merely slipped from under the covers and followed her, chin held high, body bared to the world. She had no intention of letting her captor make her feel uncomfortable.
She was led into a bathroom the size of a small studio apartment. The bathtub, or small pool, sat filled to the brim with lavish bubbles. Several small cascades of water fell into the tub at different levels to keep the bubble level high. A scent floated in the air that Charlotte couldnât placeâalmost like a flower, almost like a fruit, almost like freshly cut grass, almost like the breeze after a storm. All scents that she thought should overwhelm her if put together, but somehow they mixed perfectly.
Charlotte slipped into the bath, pleasantly surprised by the texture of the liquid she submerged herself into. It felt thicker than water, like milk, but warm and clingy as honey. She tried to see what it looked like, but the bubbles were everywhere, making it impossible.
